Q: What is a "Curl Cast?"

— September 02, 2020

Q: What is a curl cast? Should I be concerned about hard hair?

curlBOX: A curl cast is the slightly hard feeling your curls tend to have after using a product, specifically a gel like your Cantu Avocado Hydrating Gel. The product smooths and cluster your curls into a defined spiral or wave and dries with a crunch. The “cast” is what makes your hair look defined. It’s nothing to be concerned about because it can easily be broken by simply scrunching your hair. It will also slowly soften over the course of a few days, naturally.

However, if your hair is insanely hard to the point of not being able to manipulate it at all, you’ve used too much product. If you’re simply not into the “curl cast,” here are a few ways to prevent it.

1.) Add a serum to your gel mixture to soften it.

2.) Use a ton of water when fingerstyling to help spread the product.
