Do you like to sleep in? Sure, you do, right? Well, Myleik has a few choice words for you pillow peddlers.

“I was having a meeting with our lovely blog editor (hey Kim!) and we were talking about our weekend plans.  At the top of Kim’s plans, she mentioned that was going to be sleeping in on Saturday morning.  I gasped!  “NEVER SLEEP IN!”  Kim looked at me in shock like most people do when I say that because well … it’s Saturday!  Everyone sleeps in on the weekends, right?  Wrong. Because I LOVE lists, here are 5 reasons why I don’t sleep in along with some tips for you!” – Myleik

1.  If you are REALLY chasing your dreams, that requires LOTS of time.  If you aren’t getting up until noon on Saturday, you’ve lost 4-6 hours of precious time that you could have been working on your project(s) or YOU.  People always wonder what they can be doing in that time.  You know what I do at 6:00am on Saturday morning?  I catch up on reading my Inc or Entrepreneur magazines that I didn’t get a chance to read all week.  I may read a chapter of a book that I’m trying to finish.  I may write a few emails and SAVE them in drafts (because you don’t want everyone to think you’re a freak) so that I have a jump start on my Monday morning.  There are PLENTY of things that you can do with your weekend mornings.  Take advantage of the time!

2.  Why break your routine for two days?  Doesn’t it always seem like torture getting up on Mondays?  That’s probably why everybody hates Mondays.  I actually look forward to Mondays.  On Mondays I pull out my larger coffee mug and have an extra cup because I’m excited to attack the week.  I love the saying:  “How you start is how you finish.”  So if you start your week off right, you’ll likely end it right!

3.  If you get up early you’re likely to go to bed early.  What exactly are you up doing at 1am and 2am?  No, seriously?  Most times we’re just browsing the internet looking at things we can do nothing with.  Some people work really late and I can admit that I’ve been up doing things at that hour, but I can assure you it’s because I went to bed at around 8 or 9pm and I woke up at that time to get some things done.

4.  Sleep in sections.  So many people are used to going to bed within a certain window and waking up within another window.  Switch the view to “hours rested.”  Sometimes I go to bed at 8P if I know I want to get up REALLY early in the morning to attack the day.  Yes … There are times when I get up at 3 or 4a.  If you need to come home right home and get a nap around 6 or 7pm, that’s OK.  Figure out your cycle.

5.  You miss all of the good stuff!  Let’s face it.  If you’re sleeping when ALL of the days important news is coming out (in the morning), how can you be a leader in your space?  Oh, you did it last night?  Guess what changed while you were sleeping?  Exactly.  Get UP in the morning and be first.

My philosophy:  When your eyes naturally open in the morning, who do you think is responsible for that?  Not you.  If you are so blessed to be able to have your eyes OPENED each morning, why would you close them again?  When your eyes are opened, get up and explore … Get up and live … Get up and DO.  Know why?  There will come a day when your eyes won’t open and there will be nothing you can do about it.  So stop “sleeping in.”
